The ELOG1 environmental data logger connects to your PC (the host) via a RS-232 serial link. If your PC doesn't have a Comm-port available a USB-to-Serial-Adapter (such as the IOGEAR GUC232A) can be used. Two programs are required on the host; a terminal emulation program (such as HyperTerminal), and a spreadsheet (such as Excel). The terminal program is used to extract recorded data from the logger and to configure the logger for a new recording session. The logger is configured by setting its clock, selecting a sample period, and selecting inputs. Any combination of seven inputs can be selected for recording. The sample period can be set from 4 seconds to 1 hour. The total recording time can vary from hours to months depending on the number of inputs selected and the sample period.

The ELOG1 downloads recorded data to the terminal program in Comma Separated Values (CSV) format. The terminal program stores this as a *.CSV file which can be read by any spreadsheet program. This allows you to use a familiar spreadsheet program to analyze and display your data.
